I have come to realize that my the state of my home (messy) is pretty similar to most homes. Earlier this week, I posted a picture of a small mess on my instagram account, and my friend saw it and teased me that it was like a perfectly staged mess. It got me thinking about personal branding and why I posted the picture. First, let me say that I love to take pictures of random items. I can remember taking a picture of my son’s baby dishes in the sink at our old house four years ago. There is something amazing about a square little picture of a mess with a pretty filter on it! Second, I didn’t post the entire house, because I wouldn’t normally want people to see what a mess it was. If I was going to invite you into my home I would definitely have cleaned it up. The same goes for inviting you in by instagram. I might have a mess all over, but I am probably only going to show you the pretty mess with the filter on it. Branding! When we parted ways today at work I promised to send her a full picture of my messy house in all it’s glory. Since I was exposing my mess to her why not to all of you, so I posted a live video of the mess to my Facebook page.
Most nights, I do a quick clean up before I go to bed or when I get home from work, but the mess is never ending. With two littles they are always taking something out as I am putting it back. If your house is like mine, and a lot of you confessed it is, then you are probably constantly picking up. I totally get why we do it, but sometimes we need to skip a night and feel the joy our kids feel when we tell them they are skipping bath night!
Here’s a few reasons you should skip cleaning every once in a while:
- The mess will be there tomorrow! Really! As long as you don’t do this every day your house won’t end up as stinky as your kids might be if you let them skip their bath every day.
- You are not the only one that can clean your house! Chances are you aren’t the only one that made a mess, so gather the troops and have them help!
- Kids like to clean, so let them! At least my son does- He likes to clean and then show me what he has accomplished with a big TA-DA!
- Cleaning as a family can be WAY more productive! Cleaning Tip: We like to do a timed 5 or 10 minute clean where I set the timer on the microwave and we put a serious hustle on the get as much cleaned as possible! We designate a specific area or items that need to be cleaned like the toilets or cabinets. It’s amazing what can be accomplished with a little teamwork and hustle!
- You deserve a night off to relax, drink a glass of wine, watch Pretty Little Liars or whatever else you would do if you just had an extra hour in your day!
Do you clean up your house every night before bed? What’s your best tip to keep the mess at bay? If you had an extra hour tonight what would you do with it?

Great tips! I start to get anxious when my house gets messy. Currently, we are having our home renovated leaving randomness, boxes & chaos in our office where everything is being stored. Let’s just say I am pretending that room doesn’t exist in our house right now lol. 😉

Denial… not a bad tactic. 🙂

Ever since my kids were wee little I have lived by the motto of “everything I own MUST have a place”, this helps my entire family always help keep the house tidy. I’m pretty top of the line obsessive about cleaning and organizing but I try to be realistic and use prevention in huge messes rather than mess management. However, there are a few times I have gone on “strike”, to show my family what really happens if we let it go. Needless to say, they didn’t like it lol. If I have an hour to myself then definitely the DVR, wine or my coffee in my favorite mug are involved!:)

LOL! Yes, a strike is a good way to look at it. You might know this, but we had maid service for years. We recently gave it up. It’s definitely like someone went on strike around here! I bet your house is super neat if I am basing it on how you keep your grass!!

😉 I must admit I am a neat freak!
